Santorini is a destination with stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, and iconic landmarks. Here are some attractions I believe everyone should include in their itinerary. 

Santorini Caldera: The iconic caldera, formed by a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, offers breathtaking views of the island’s cliffs, villages, and azure waters. Consider taking a boat tour or hiking along the caldera rim to experience its beauty up close.

Akrotiri Archaeological Site: Often referred to as the “Pompeii of the Aegean,” Akrotiri is an ancient Minoan settlement buried under volcanic ash. Visitors can explore well-preserved ruins, including multi-story buildings, streets, and frescoes, providing insight into ancient life on Santorini.

Pyrgos: The village which has gained the reputation of being Santorini’s Hidden Gem, is built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Profitis Ilias and offers amazing 360 views of the entire island. Wander through the medieval streets and around every corner is a perfect photo opportunity, not to mention amazing places to eat and drink, filled with locals!

Oia is renowned for offering some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world. In my experience, the Sunset Lounge at Canaves Epitome is the best location to enjoy these sunsets. The lounge provides a serene escape from the busy streets of Oia, allowing guests to indulge in the perfect pairing of mesmerizing direct sunset views and a delightful selection of cocktails and aperitivos. While watching unobstructed views of the horizon, the sun dips below the Aegean Sea, painting the sky in vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple.

Are there any local festivals or events on Santorini that visitors should consider when planning their trip?

Santorini hosts several vibrant festivals and events throughout the season. One of the most enchanting ones is “Ifestia”, an annual event on Santorini, that celebrates the eruption of the volcano. A lot of people gathered in Imerovigli village for this event to witness the island’s volcanic legacy in a vibrant celebration with fireworks and cultural performances.

Moreover, Easter and especially Good Friday in Pyrgos village is a deeply moving and culturally rich experience. As the procession moves through the streets, the lanterns cast a gentle glow, creating a dramatic and contemplative atmosphere!

My top three hidden gem spots include: Megalochori village, enjoying picturesque sceneries and authentic local cuisine, paired with wine tasting at a nearby winery. Pyrgos village for a sunset stroll through Santorini’s traditional architecture and panoramic views from the highest point of the island! For a peaceful day away from the hustle, i would hop on a short boat ride to Thirassia Island and bike through charming villages, soak in panoramic views, and indulge in fresh seafood by the serene seaside, THE authentic Greek island experience.

Could you suggest the most scenic and picturesque spots for capturing memorable photos on the island?

One of the best spots on Santorini for panoramic views is Profitis Ilias near Pyrgos Village. It is the highest point on the island and on the days that the atmosphere is clear you can see all the way to Crete Island. Another suggestion for people who love to hike would be The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Holy Chapel, which is on the hiking trail from Oia to Fira. The sunset in this spot is breathtaking plus you will be far away from the crowded streets of the Village of Oia.

Can you share any personal favorite experiences on the island that you would recommend exploring to get a more authentic experience?
